Hello, I've been trying to fix CentOS for a while, however I might need some suggestions please.
I install CentOS on a VM and the CentOS desktop shows error:
A hard disk may be failing. One or more hard disks report health problems. Click the icon to get more information. 107 GB Hard Disk - ATA QEMU HARDDISK. DISK IS BEING USED OUTSIDE DESIGN PARAMETERS.
I then navigate to CentOS > Applications > Internet > Firefox Web Browser > http://www.virtualmin.com/download.html > Virtualmn GPL Downloads > Linux and FreeBSD > Save File > OK > Applications > System Tools > Terminal > cd / > cd root/Downloads > /bin/sh install.sh > y > Enter > Please enter a fully qualified hostname: centos.com > Enter (allow about 10 minutes for install), but error:
Failed to initialize. Failed to initialize packaging backend. This may occur if other packaging tools are being used simultaneously. There are unfinished transactions remaining. Plesae run yum-complete-transaction as root.
I ran Terminal > sudo yum-complete-transaction.
The following error repeats over and over: error: rpmdb: damaged header #1203 retrieved -- skipping.
I tried CentOS > Terminal > rpm --rebulddb
error: rpmdbNextIterator: skipping h# 1203 blob size(301600): BAD, 8 + 16 * il(0) + dl(0)

Re: CentOS 6.5 multiple errors
Do you simply have a disk going bad?

Re: CentOS 6.5 multiple errors
I agree, sounds like a faulty disk has resulted in corruption of the RPM database.
Re: CentOS 6.5 multiple errors
Thank you for the replies.
No, the SSD is working fine.
I run Proxmox on it and other VM servers which work fine.
CentOS has always given this error.
Additionally, after reinstalling CentOS_6.5.iso several times from several different mirrors, I have noticed another error where the No Network Connection icon at the top of the CentOS desktop doesn't automatically connect, until I click the CentOS desktop Network icon.
I am using a static IP.

Re: CentOS 6.5 multiple errors
That's probably not an error. If you don't activate the network card during install, it will stay disabled. I've not had problems with CentOS 5 or 6 as KVM guests. Make sure that you are using the virtio network and disk drivers and maybe even set the elevator to noop.I run Proxmox on it and other VM servers which work fine.

Re: CentOS 6.5 multiple errors
Thank you tigaich, that fixed it.
Seems I missed ticking the Connect Automatically box.
So, back to the original problem of:
A hard disk may be failing. One or more hard disks report health problems. Click the icon to get more information. 107 GB Hard Disk - ATA QEMU HARDDISK. DISK IS BEING USED OUTSIDE DESIGN PARAMETERS.
I run CentOS on a VM where I allocate 100GB for the VM which CentOS is installed in.
The hardware storing the VM has a Hard Disk that is 80GB I think?
I did try reducing the VM allocation to 50GB to install CentOS on, however the error persists.

Re: CentOS 6.5 multiple errors
I have never heard of a virtual disk which reports itself as failing via SMART before. What does smartctl -a /dev/sda (for some value of sda) report?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Re: CentOS 6.5 multiple errors
Well, tried to open Terminal to run that command, but CentOS started updating and froze 50% of the way through.
Stopped virtual server hosting CentOS, started virtual server hosting CentOS and CentOS froze loading up.
Think I have to reinstall CentOS again?
