Hello.
When I'm trying to boot kernel 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5.centos.plusxen into single user
Adding single or s in grub according to http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Installation_Guide-en-US/s1-rescuemode-booting-single.html

Any one having same problem or is it just me have this problem with grub// boot issue?
Adding parameter single just dont have ANY affect on my boot sequence. WEIRD!

If you want to boot single user, try selecting one of the stock kernels.
You won't be running XEN single user anyway.

I tried quite hard once to add "vga=791" to the kernel parameters under xen, and evetually gave up.

It seems that any parameters not of interest to xen are silently ignored.

Use different vga codes:

# cat /etc/grub.conf
...
title CentOS (2.6.18-92.1.18.el5xen)
        root (hd0,5)
        kernel /xen.gz-2.6.18-92.1.18.el5 vga=gfx-800x600x16
        module /vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.1.18.el5xen ro root=/dev/primary/centos rhgb quiet
        module /initrd-2.6.18-92.1.18.el5xen.img
...

For xen:

'vga=<mode-specifier>[,keep]' where <mode-specifier> is one of:

   'vga=ask':
      display a vga menu of available modes

   'vga=text-80x<rows>':
      text mode, where <rows> is one of {25,28,30,34,43,50,60}

   'vga=gfx-<width>x<height>x<depth>':
      graphics mode, e.g., vga=gfx-1024x768x16

   'vga=mode-<mode>:
      specifies a mode as specified in 'vga=ask' menu

      (NB. menu modes are displayed in hex, so mode numbers here must
           be prefixed with '0x' (e.g., 'vga=mode-0x0318'))

 The option 'keep' causes Xen to continue to print to the VGA console even
 after domain 0 starts to boot. The default behaviour is to relinquish
 control of the console to domain 0.

Run vga=ask once to see what the allowable options are.

gerald_clark: Reason to boot into singel was I wanted to disable a newly installed service who was failing during boot. Changing kernel dont disable the failing service during boot , but its a good idea to change kernel. ( If it was a kernel error).
I manage to find a Centos dvd (like 1 hr to find ) and use it to boot into rescue mode. ---> disabling service. 1 hrs work for a 30 s jobb. ;-?

yetinet: Xenkernel dont like extra parameters at boot like nonxenkernel??? Thats not ok..
So you always need a bootable media in case of "bootfailure" ??

Booting the standard kernel WILL allow you to disable the failing service for the next boot.
Fix your problem once you have booted the standard kernel. Then reboot using the XEN kernel.
