Greetings - I followed the instruction on the Centos WIKI on installing the spacewalk server. I managed to do that and register all my systems. But when I schedule them to update. I get a python error.

When I go the the machine itself and do yum check-update. I get the following error

Loading "rhnplugin" plugin
Loading "fastestmirror" plugin
Loading "priorities" plugin
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
* centos-base-i386: pegasus
* spacewalk-client-tools: stahnma.fedorapeople.org
centos-base-i386 100% |=========================| 1.0 kB 00:00
primary.xml.gz 100% |=========================| 300 kB 00:01
Error: failed to retrieve repodata/primary.xml.gz from centos-base-i386
error was [Errno -3] Error performing checksum

I thought it was the gpgkeys, so I copied them, per the instructions. the error says retrieve primary.xml. So I thought, maybe the repo is not syncing correctly. I then deleted the software channel and recreated it with the new feater in 6.0 , which allows you to put a repo of your choice and it will mirror it. The packages, seem to be populating and spacwalk says there are software packages available for that client, 116, but I cant get past the above error.

does anyone have any ides or maybe lead me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Hi th350urc3,

first of all I would suggest you to use the latest spacewalk-client-tools from the 'official' Spacewalk Repo and EPEL (if necessary). There you will find a more current version of most tools.

If you have registered your system to spacewalk using rhnreg_ks and installed necessary packages (like rhnsd m2crypto yum-rhn-plugin) you should be able to use yum on client side and to schedule updates via spacewalk.

Best Regards
Marcus

Hi,

I had the same problem when installing Spacewalk 0.6 on CentOS 5.3
The issue was that I choose sha-256 instead of sha1 as Yum Repository Checksum Type, but this isn't working with CentOS 5.3 clients.
After changing the checksum type I did a "yum clean all" on the clients and installing/upgrading packages from my Spacewalk server did work.

regards,
scrat

Hi

I had the same issue - solution to get the client happy was:

yum makecache

Then everything started working as expected
