That's the original 5.4 kernel, so you are now 2 revs behind. Not sure if that has anything to do with your issue.
Does the Galil software run as root? |

solution found - the command:
add route <IP address> eth0 got the multicast socket working |

Presumably you meant
route add <IP address> eth0 I am surprised that helped as you should not have been able to ping the IP address if there was not already a route to it. |
