I have a PC connected by ethernet to a Galil motion controller card.
I recently installed Centos 5. The Galil software for communicating with the card is reporting that it can't join a multicast socket group. The software used to work with another version of Linux. I can (still) ping the motion controller card. |

rpm: centos-release-5-4.el5.centos.1 The firewall and selinux are disabled. |

That's the original 5.4 kernel, so you are now 2 revs behind. Not sure if that has anything to do with your issue.
Does the Galil software run as root? |

solution found - the command:
add route <IP address> eth0 got the multicast socket working |

Presumably you meant
route add <IP address> eth0 I am surprised that helped as you should not have been able to ping the IP address if there was not already a route to it. |
