Ok, I feel appropriately stupid...

Under firefox, "about :config" and setting "Disable ipv6" to True seems to have done the trick under firefox.

I had used Fedora 11 for a while and new that was necessary because it had been enabled by default there, I was under the impression it wouldn't have been the default value in CentOS at this point.

I still have the problem when I use a text based browser, so I assume that CentOS itself is set to default to IPV6 somewhere. Can anyone tell me where to change that so all my applications can resolve successfully?

Thanks

I figured it would be something pretty simple when finally found. A Wiki search for ipv6 finds the FAQ How do I disable IPv6?

Ouch! Kick me when I'm down! :)

I did feel foolish. I ran into delays/performance issues under Fedora 11 when IPV6 was enabled, but it would eventually resolve. Not so now, but that could be completely unrelated to CentOS. (And probably is...)

Thanks for your perseverance, the help is appreciated. If there is a way to mark this thread resolved, I'm in favor of it.

Best Regards

Appended to the Subject to show resolution. Glad to see it resolved, and simple doesn't mean easy. Congratulations on your perseverance as well.
