Thank you

Post #6 to a recent forum thread will show you the way to do it.

In your case, you just need to force re-install the centos-release and yum packages.

Hence the last line in Phil's instructions would be --

rpm --root /mnt/sysimage -Uvh --force centos-release-5-4.el5.centos.1.i386.rpm yum-3.2.22-20.el5.centos.noarch.rpm

it certainly helped, however what I did was going to back to the installation DVD and I copied yum and Centos release rpms and installed them using rpm -Uvh, I guess it updated all the stuff and I got yum working again.

However I remember that whenver i used to do yum search or yum update I used to see fast mirrors from iweb.com which is a very fast and powerful data center in Montreal Canada, now I'm getting

# yum update
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
* addons: centos.mirror.nac.net
* base: mirrors.netdna.com
* extras: mirror.sanctuaryhost.com
* updates: ftp.osuosl.org

Any ideas

If you want to use a specific mirror rather than the mirrorlist and fastestmirror plugin, edit /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo, comment out all the "mirrorlist=" lines, uncomment the "baseurl=" lines and change them to use your favorite mirror.
