I am relatively new to CentOS. I attempted to install 5.3 with firewire several weeks ago and abandoned the install because it was taking too long to figure out the problems. I've had to revisit this and am having troubles with it. I was told that CentOS 5 has firewire 1394 support. When I did the typical install, it didn't physically (manually) install the video1394 and raw1394 modules. At boot up, my computer says that video1394 and raw1394 are "Module(s) not found". If I do <lsmod> I get (*snippet of o/p),

Can anyone ponit me in the right direction? Is there anything else that I need to do? |

You should not need to compile anything.
Please consider installing the kABI tracking kmod-ieee1394 package that is available from ELRepo. Once you have configured your system to access the ELRepo repositories, it would simply be -- Please also be aware that CentOS 5.4 is the current release. If you haven't already done so, I would recommend that you read the CentOS 5.4 release notes and then update your system. |

I was told that this version of Cent has the all new firewire modules which do not support the version 1.x.x of libraw and libdc that I am trying to use. I had to enable the kernel "plus" and make sure that I wasn't using the firewire_ohci module. Without the "plus' enabled, it did not recognize or install any of the firewire modules.
The kernel I am am running now is: 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5.centos.plus Once I moved to this kernel and installed the proper firewire modules my firewire card was recognized and I was able to install Coriander (couldn't before). |
