Hey everyone,

I have a system that I would LOVE to convert from Windows 2003 server to CentOS 5.4 It has a Fasttrak s150 tx4 controller with two raid drives.
Question:
On the Promise site you can get RedHat 9.0 drivers for it. The question is...what is the best solution for drivers for this hardware raid controller?

Thanks...

I'm pretty certain that is not a true hardware RAID, rather a "Fake RAID". Best bet is probably to use it as a normal SATA controller and use software RAID if you want RAID. See the discussions and links on that page for details.

I contacted Promise and they claim a true RAID. We'll see. CentOS does have support for the card. We'll see.
Thanks for the reply.

Their definition of "true RAID" doesn't necessarily agree with the one used by the Linux community: http://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/SATA_RAID_FAQ#I_have_a_Promise_TX4_SATA_RAID_card._Why_doesn.27t_Linux_support_my_hardware_RAID.3F

Yes, it's supported as a normal four-port SATA card, and RAID arrays defined with the card BIOS firmware may be supported in software using the dmraid driver.

Well thank you. Learned a lot. I have used the linux software raid. Excellent system but certainly takes some overhead but it works.
