Just to follow up with message resolution:
Added "nmi_watchdog=1" to /boot/grub/menu.lst (Note- " nmi_watchdog=2" did not work): example: kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-164.el5 ro root=/dev/VolGroupSys/LogVolSys rhgb quiet nmi_watchdog=1 The "Cannot setup NMI..." message does not appear any more. Also see the link below for more details on NMI watchdog. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/lnxinfo/v3r0m0/index.jsp?topic=/liaai/crashdump/liaaicrashdumpnmiwatch.htm |

I noticed that too. Need to do more research on it.
Update the thread if you find any useful info, please. |

From what I understand nmi_watchdog 1 disables the watchdog. not sure if that is what we are really looking for.

I see the IBM link doesn't work. But this is what is posted there:
"...Not all hardware supports nmi_watchdog=1 boot parameter. Some hardware supports nmi_watchdog=2 and some hardware supports neither. It requires some experimentation to find out what your hardware supports..." nmi_watchdog=0 disables the watchdog. So, perhaps vmware virtual hardware does not suppot either "1" or "2" option. I'll keep looking. |
