What happens when you try to configure the sound, and what is the result of "/sbin/lspci -m"?

You did not answer "what happened", and I see two audio devices listed. Which did you try?

It would be useful to post the text of the error message. You could look for drivers for your hardware in 3rd party repos.
Please read http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories and note the warnings and advice about installing and configuring yum-priorities http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities Good ones to try (in order): ELRepo RPMforge ATrpms |

I installed the proprietary driver of ati and now when I boot CentOS I have a black screen, I can't do anything, the Ctrl+Alt+F1... doesn't work.

My uncle has Intel 82801JI HD Audio card (ICH10) (same as original posters) on CentOS 5.4 and error popping up when I double click on the Volume Control is:
"No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found." Device Manager says: OEM Product Unknown (0xa002) pci.product_id 14910 (0x3a3e) pci.subsys_product Unknown (0xa002) pci.subsys_product_id 40962 (0xa002) lspci -m: Quote: 00:00.0 "Host bridge" "Intel Corporation" "4 Series Chipset DRAM Controller" -r03 "Giga-byte Technology" "GA-EP45-DS5 Motherboard" Sound Card detection sees 2 cards, ATI Technologies Inc HD48x0 audio and Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller, but there are no PCM devices available. When I try to change order to set Intel first, error pops up: Quote: Unable to load kernel module None. You need to reboot your box for the changes to take effect I've attached scsconfig.log and scsrun.log If I start Amarok, I get this error: Quote: Sound server informational message: Error while initializing the sound driver: device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory) The sound server will continue, using the null output device. |
