Adjusting Horiz/Vert for autoconfigured Monitor

I use an electronic KVM switch to switch between my Windows XP and a Centos 5.4 32 bit boxes.

At 1280x1024, 75 Hz, Millions of colors settings my windows screen and my Linux screen differ by about half an inch (Linux screen shifts left) so it bugs me and I'd like to fix it. The black bar on the right isn't as annoying as not being able to see the first 6 - 8 characters of a fullscreen prompt.

When I installed Centos 5.4 on the box (Emachine T3624) everything installed smoothly and it autodetected my monitor and set it to 1280x1024@75Hz/Millions.

According to Gnome System/Administration/Display :

My Monitor is autodetected as : E17T4 (It's an Envision/Emachines 17" LCD)
My Video Card is autodetected as : Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device

I have tried manually editing the xorg.conf file and adding a "Monitor" section with a modeline from the modeline calculator at www.arachnoid.com/modelines but I can't seem to get it to take effect. Adding the section causes the Gnome System/Administration/Display applet to show the monitor type as "Unknown" but does not seem to have any actual effect on my monitor. Here is what I tried this last time after subtracting 24 from both horizontal settings in an attempt to shift my screen to the right :

# Xorg configuration created by system-config-display

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "single head configuration"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection

# Section ADDED BY ME - subtracted 24 from horiz numbers of 1368 and 1504
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Screen0"
ModeLine "1280x1024" 138.5 1280 1344 1480 1728 1024 1025 1028 1069 -hsync +vsync
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "i810"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "800x600"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Is there a way I can just edit the numbers that "autoconfigure" uses when it identifies my E17T4 monitor ? that way it wouldn't say "Unknown" in the Gnome System/Administration/Display applet after I customize it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Now come on...I would assume there have to be several people that know how to fix it. I've already put in too many hours trying different configs and searching the internet for an answer.

Somebody knows how to do this....at least toss me a breadcrumb.

People who know something may by put off by your complaints about not getting an answer less than 2 hours after your initial post. Have you tried "xvidtune"?
# rpm -qf `which xvidtune`
xorg-x11-server-utils-7.1-4.fc6
