CentOS Installation fails

Hi,

can anyone help me before I become crazy, even it might be too late. Following System:

Intel Core 2 Duo 1,8 GHz
4GB Memory
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3
2x Samsung S-ATA 200GB (no raid)

I try to install CentOS on this system but I always get the message: "What type of media contains the packages to be installed?". Well, at first I tried to download the packages from the net so CentOS starts the graphical interface installer but then I can just select the DVD Drive as destination for CentOS.

I am missing my harddrives. I tried 'all-generic-ide' and turned ACPI in Bios on and off. Any suggestions what I can do to see my both harddrives?

Thank you!!!

Cheers, BugVictim

Which centos version are you trying to install? current one is 5.4, and you should be trying the 64bit one unless you have a very special reason to install the 32bit one. Also, make sure your drives are set in the bios to SATA mode (sometimes called AHCI). If that doesn't work, try setting them to ATA (or IDE or legacy, they should be the same). Do not use on-board RAID if possible. Also, make sure you update the BIOS to the latest available version.

Regards.

Hi,

thanks for your answer. I can confirm everything.

-CentOS 5.4 (x86_64)
- tried IDE and AHCI(S-ATA) Mode (No Raid)

None of them worked.

Hi!

From this link: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2748 I see this board has several revisions (1.0, 2.0 and 2.1). Which one is yours? also, it seems to use the ICH9 chipset, for which centos *might* not have support (it's the disk controller). Have you tried a live CD of some other distro? Fedora comes to mind...even ubuntu.

Regards.

Edit: I just noticed your board brings SATA ports in two colors: orange and purple. Have you tried switching the drives to another color ports? it seems (from this link: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2748&ProductName=GA-P35-DS3 look "Storage interface") that they are connected to different chips.
