I am trying to run yum update after installing 4.0. Here is a transcript of what I get:

Trying other mirror.
Error: failure: RPMS/mysql-devel-4.1.10a-1.RHEL4.1.i386.rpm from update: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

Why is this header not complete? I have tried this with 2 mirrors with the same result. Help!

Can not garantee for unwanted sideeffects, but what about just downloading:
http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/centos/4.0/updates/i386/RPMS/mysql-devel-4.1.10a-1.RHEL4.1.i386.rpm

And then "rpm -Uvh mysql-devel*"

(The old way before yum.)

Remove the following file:

/var/cache/yum/updates/headres/mysql-devel-4.1.10a-1.RHEL4.1.i386.hdr

And try the install via yum again. It should re-download the header file.

If you're still getting problems, you might be having a firewall issue, truncating the header. Try stopping iptables and trying it again.

I have this issue with systems behind a sonicwall. It downloads the actual package instead of the .hdr file and reports the .hdr file is corrupt.

My solution was to use up2date.

A better "solution" would be to talk to your firewall/proxy vendor... and ask them for a solution. yum will always need to make byte-ranged requests, and firewall/proxy vendors had better just get used to it.

We resolved the problem by turning off sonicwall's anti-spyware definitions
