On my old Alpha 164LX System I recall that Linux could only be booted
from a drive which wsa connected to the internal IDE interface. So I always had a small ide drive and larger internal drives for storage needs. The Alpha still works via RedHat 7.2 as a manager for my Condor Cluster. I might try to install CentOs 4.2 on there within the next month as a test to see if CentOs will work with Condor. JW |

G'day,
i've got myself an Alpha 1200 server at work which has been sitting on a shelf for about 2 years unused.. so I've been allowed to blitz the old data on it and rebuild it into something.. anything I want even.. my aim is to have it become a beefy sendmail server. I've downloaded the 4.1 alpha distribution and got it to boot the cds... but have a minor snag.. it doesn't recognize any harddrives but i can see there are 2 raids in the machine on an DAC960 raid card. i get this error - DAC960#0: PCI Bus 1 Device 2 Function 0 i/o address 0x8400 DAC960#0: FIRMWARE VERSION VERIFICATION FAILED - DETACHING DAC960#0: Firmwave Version = `2.49-0-00` unable to handle kernel page request at virtual address 0000000000000000 anyone know what this might be from? first time dealing with alpha hardware :( any hints/ideas/suggestions/comments welcomed.. thanks in advance |
