Thanks for reporting back. Guess I should have explicitly stated my suspicions about the cause, rather than just asking for the data to confirm them. Marking this thread [SOLVED] for posterity.

Problem Solved,
it had to do with the GPT partitions, basic linux setup wouldn't allow to create a bigger volume than 2.2 TB.

Found the solution here:

Difficult to say what is going on with no hard data. Please provide more information about your system by running "./getinfo.sh disk" and showing us the output file.

Hello there,
im trying to setup a CentOS 6.2 box with RAID 10.

I have 6 1 TB HDD's which make together after the RAID setup 2.8 TB. When im trying to install Centos, in the partition setup 700 GB out of the 2.8 TB is reserved by the system. That seems to me a quite high number. Shouldn't it be around 5% of the whole free space? Pls help
