in every couple minutes, the message come up "cdrom_pc_intr: The drive appears confused".

I installed CentOS with "all-generic-ide noacpi nolacpi", and set the boot option to "all-generic-ide noacpi nolacpi irqpoll"
I search the internet, some post suggest update kernel to 2.6.20, I will try, but don't know will it help.

Any suggest will be appreciated.

And here is some information:

Try changing this boot option, remove the all-generic-ide noacpi nolacpi parts from the kernel line in /boot/grub.conf

You should also update the system ASAP, you seem to be way out of date at least kernel wise;
https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2008-0154.html

FYI: just so you know the Red Hat / CentOS are patched from the upstream vanilla kernel source, do not let version numbers alone confuse the issue.

Let's see the output (both with your boot options and my suggestion) from the typed command;

cat /proc/modules | grep ata

Thanks for your response.

I've run "yum update" just now.

I remove all those boot options, then kernel panic, with following message:

Memory for crash kernel (0x0 to 0x0) notwithin permissible range
PCI: BIOS Bug: MCFG area ate0000000 is not E820-reserved
PCI: Not using MMCONFIG.

setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or dirctory

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

But, with the "all-generic-ide noapic nolapic irqpoll" options, the system could come up and works.

Yuck! What a mess (the /var/log/messages file)!!

As a suggestion install the plus kernel

yum install kernel-2.6.18-53.1.14.el5.centos.plus --disablerepo=\* --enablerepo=centosplus
(check your /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo file for the correct name of the plus repo first)

Then try booting with your options in place.

Also try booting with the options irqpoll iommu=off, you will likely get an error about the swap partition [ Unable to access resume device (LABEL=SWAP-hda2) ] which is expected as the partitioning may switch to sda
