Projects based on CentOS : CentOs File Server
Posted by xatacom on 2009/8/11 6:00:00 (409 reads)

We saved one of our clients thousands of dollars migrating file servers from a Windows File server environment to a Samba Centos Server. In fact, during the last virus scare our client called us worried about the so called April Fools virus. We told them not to worry that their File Server was protected due to it being on CentOS. :) Got to love Linux! especially CentOS!! :)

Sincerely,
Thomas E.

Projects based on CentOS : Strongbolt Linux is new software for Cobalt servers
Posted by jimmybob46 on 2006/8/26 6:20:00 (7237 reads)

The Strongbolt project  is the osoffice.co.uk's revival of Sun Cobalt's server appliance product family. Sun discontinued the cobalt line of servers in 2004, and the last patch was released April 19, 2004. Since then this operating system has been getting more and more out of date.

Strongbolt is built on the excellent community driven Centos 4.
After several months of bugfixing and beta testing, www.osoffice.co.uk is proud to present the latest version of the Strongbolt installer. We are also pleased to announce that the project has now moved out of beta testing. In order to test the stability of the install, we have had several RaQ 3's, RaQ 4's and RaQ 550's running as production machines hosting both real and dummy websites to see what problems might occur. We have now addressed all of the problems that we have encountered, and incorporated the fixes into our new installer.

The Strongbolt server is a rom patched, highly tuned operating system inside the sleek blue box that has proven to be reliable and robust for many years. Hosting web pages does not require 2.8Ghz pentium 64bit state-of-the-art hardware, you can run a reliable web server on a pentium 1 and you would probably not notice the difference in performance!

The installer works in the same way that Cobalt Linux used to install - (by mounting nfs shares from a PC running the restore disc).
