Is the Donavan involved with CentOS the same one that was involved with WhiteBoxLinux?
Yes. The CentOS project accepts his contributions. Infact he still runs this white box linux website. But most of his energy is dedicated to promoting CentOS and supporting CentOS users and potential users.

WBEL home page at new URL
Just a note that the WBEL home page is now at http://www.whiteboxlinux.org/

Also, I see no mention of CentOS on the WBEL pages at all, so it's not clear to visitors to that site that Donavan has moved over to primarily supporting CentOS now. I've always thought it strange that multiple near-identical clones of RHEL were available - it surely makes more sense to have just one clone so that we don't see duplication of effort? Maybe there might be some sort of WBEL announcement in the near future (with some sort of migration path from WBEL to CentOS)?

Re: WBEL home page at new URL
Donavan Nelson (and Johnny Hughes, Karanbir Singh) were all initially active on the WBEL list and tried to help out with WBEL, but the creator of WBEL did not really want any community help.

CentOS did want community help and so all those people (and several more) became CentOS developers.

You can upgrade from WBEL to CentOS by following the guidance in this link:

http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=19

WBEL does still exist and is usable, though updates can sometimes lag.
