Why does my recently downloaded CentOS 3.3 x86_64 say it is RC1? Isn't the x86_64 edition released yet? [CentOS 3 Specific]

Why does my recently downloaded CentOS 3.3 x86_64 say it is RC1? Isn't the x86_64 edition released yet?
The ISOs are in fact the release version. No changes were necessary between what was labeled "RC1" and the final release. Respinning ISOs just to change /etc/redhat-release has limited value.
