Re: Inconsistent NIS Client Behavior w/ Centos 7

(Found the problem -- there was a tiny difference in the passwd line of the nsswitch file. Time to wear the bifocals full time)

Re: /etc/dconf/db/gdm is missing on new Centos 7.6 1810 build (gdm.x86_64 1:3.28.2-10.el7)

I was able to resolve this problem the above guidance and some additional sweat equity towards the video drivers. The after an additional run at installing the NVidia drivers and disabling the Intel drivers, all machines booted without the directory and customizing the directory afterwards created t...

Inconsistent NIS Client Behavior w/ Centos 7

I am working on bringing back a number of Centos 7 rigs in our student computer lab back online. No change was made to the existing server machine [running Scientific Linux 6] Right now there is one remaining thing to resolve: an inconsistency with the rigs' NIS Clients. I have configured rcpbind an...

Thanks Much Trevor.

With that info I was able to get through that. (Time to tackle the next mole in the whack-a-system game.).

/etc/dconf/db/gdm is missing on new Centos 7.6 1810 build (gdm.x86_64 1:3.28.2-10.el7)

Hello All. I have run into a wall in reinstalling Centos 7 on a number HP EliteDesk 800 G2 desktop workstations. The install problems this time have been legion but the major wall I am hitting at this point is the GDM manager. (gdm.x86_64 1:3.28.2-10.el7, specifically) These rigs have two graphics c...

Re: Bumblebee or no Bumblebee? NVIDIA on Centos 7 *destops* with 2 video cards

Watch out for the machines with the Aspeed controllers. If you disable that and use a different card for your graphics it's likely to affect your ability to use the Aspeed IPMI remote console. Good to know there (and those Xi rigs with the ASpeed machines are out range of students fingers and mine ...

Bumblebee or no Bumblebee? NVIDIA on Centos 7 *destops* with 2 video cards

I've been working with a set of HPC rigs manufactured by Xi and HP (they are expected to run MPI parallel forecast models and also serve graphics resources such as NOAA/UNIDATA's AWIPS2). Both have two sets of VGA cards which makes the normal recommended kmod approach from elrepo problematic. The ri...

Upgrading from Scientific Linux 6.7 to Centos 6.8

For what I suspect is something from the "Don't try this at home, at your friend's house or even at your frenemies's house" file but here 'goes. We are loading our new lab machines to Centos 6.8 (one piece of software is keeping us from going to 7). We have machines on the same network that are runn...
