Re: putty disconnects from centos 74 after 30 secs
Yes, 'Network Service' groups will implement 'idle timeout' rules on the switches, or router/firewalls, especially if they're attempting to comply with 'audit' requirements (i.e. SOX, CCA networks, etc). BUT, you can try to implement the 'keepalive' functionality in Putty, to see if 'that' helps... ...

Re: Free IPA Compatibility Cent 6 Server and 7 client
As per the FreeIPA website: https://www.freeipa.org/page/Client Forward/backward compatibility is provided, though, they'll adjust to the 'lowest common denominator' in functionality. So I suspect that 'yes' it will work (as you've found), but certain functionality (such as 'v2') will not, if its no...

Broken autofs maps 'variable replacement' in Kickstart post installation process
Have 'variable substitutions' been removed/disabled from the automounter in the Kickstart 'post install' process ? I'm testing my Kickstart infrastructure, which uses the NFS automounter in the "%post" section, that has functioned in all of the EL 5.x, 6.x, and RHEL 7.2 (last time I tested O/S updat...

Re: Join Active Directory (e.g. via kickstart file)
I can relate to what you're attempting to achieve, and can provide info that 'may' be relevant (though, it would be different in the ID service (AD !) you're going to use). First, only use the Kickstart 'host-config' file to provide the 'proprietary' required entries for the kickstart process. Use t...

Re: usb ethernet driver/setup
In case this is still a relevant topic (7 years later), I came across it after purchasing this model USB 3.0 - gigabit interface devices, and attempted to install it. I'm using CentOS 6.9 (updated) and was able to activate and configure the device in about 10 minutes time... At a 'high level', this ...

Re: Virus Scanner for Linux (or CentOS)
Most (if not all) virus-scanning software that will 'install' and 'run' on Linux, just replicate the function that would be seen on a 'Windows-based' computer (meaning, that it scans for 'windows-based' viruses). I've use them (mainly ClamAV) to scan 'user-writeable' locations on the Linux systems, ...

Re: Changing MTU size for PXE, TFTP, NFS
In case 'this' will be of help to you. I had encountered a similiar, but opposite issue, where the Cisco 'Nexus' switches were fragmenting packets (larger than 1480) such that I had to set the MTU size at the point of the PXE boot. 'You' might try a similiar PXE entry for your system(s), using the j...
