Re: How can I replace existing hard disk?

Thank you. I think I'd want to keep the VMware host running, since I may want to add another virtual machine in future. But I think you are right, I should be asking this question in a VMware forum. I'll do that tomorrow (well, later today, but it's 2am here!). Maybe I should copy the media data to ...

How can I replace existing hard disk?

I currently run CentOS as a VMware virtual machine on ESXi v6.5. I don't think I can upgrade to a later version of EXSi - theDell T110 server hardware is too old, but still seems reliable. It's all running on a 1GB hard drive, using almost 850GB for data - music, videos, and photos - using Plex Medi...

Re: Enlarging the /home directory

Finally got round to finishing this, and it is I think now all working as desired.

Just transferring my media to the new server - it will take several hours as there are hundreds of GB of them.

Many thanks for all the help to get me there.

Re: Enlarging the /home directory

Thank you. That helps my understanding in generally. But I'm afraid I'm still not quite clear if I've done everything I need to already, or do I still need to do one more step on .../centos-home? I haven't done step 4. - extending the file_system with xfs_growfs - because I'm being dense about wheth...

Re: Enlarging the /home directory

So that's the one to go for? centos-home?

I wasn't sure whether there was a parent file-system of which it was only a part.

Thanks.

Re: Enlarging the /home directory

I've done everything you suggested, days later than I had hoped, except the last step, and it all seems to have worked ok so far. Not sure what to use in the last step for 'filesystem_name'. This is what's in /etc/fstab: /dev/mapper/centos-root xfs defaults 0 0 UUID (long and complex - can't copy/pa...

Many thanks. Busy rest of today, but may be able to try late tonight. If not tonight, then some time tomorrow.

use fdisk to add a new partition that uses up the rest of the space then tag it as type 0x8e LVM.
Sounds easy when you say it quickly, but I've no idea at the moment how to do that!

Will have to look up fdisk options and behaviour.

Re: Enlarging the /home directory

Thank you very much indeed. I'll have to do some homework to understand what you say I should do (too late tonight and busy almost all tomorrow, but hope to try again on Wednesday). I'm very glad there IS apparently, then, a way to enlarge the available space without having to reinstall everything f...
