Connect to Samba from Vista

I've spent far too much time trying to connect to a CentOS5 host using Samba from a Vista workstation. What USED TO WORK in the "olden times" no longer works due to Vista, not necessarily Samba! The trick now is to set up Samba on CentOS/Linux as per traditional method(s) but on the Vista side no ma...

Re: PHP5 and MySQL5

MySQL 5.0.22 is definitely available in CentOSPlus. Be sure you have "enabled=1" in the subsection of your /etc/yum.repo.d/C* file. I haven't look for a couple weeks or longer, but the last time I did look, I think MySQL 5.1 was still very much beta, hence you are very unlikely to see it anywhere ne...

Re: Secure remote console made EASY!

Unfortunately, it does NOT work (compile really) on 64-bit versions of CentOS 4.3. But its not the only application that doesn't play nicely on *64 but its the only one I haven't conquered yet.

PHP/suexec on CentOS 4.3?

I have been trying to figure out how-to do this: Execute the "at" command from a PHP script, using a standard CentOS 4.3 configuration. I have a PHP script that works, except that it runs as UID/GID "apache" and the "at" command would better serve by running as a different user. Is there any way to ...

Secure remote console made EASY!

While fooling around with cygwin/Putty trying to get a VPN-console to work, I began seeing mentions of "freenx". Suffice it to say that it is NEAT STUFF and relatively simple to setup/configure. Quick-steps included: 1. Install freenx and nx from dev.centos.org testing repo 2. Configure the freenx (...

Powerfully fragile OS

This is mostly rant/vent, but not directed at anyone so it's like the bluster on the TV talk shows! I've long been a believer in the RedHat-way, starting from the "two-dozen floppies" distribution of a few years ago. However, the delta between RHEL/CentOS and even mid-way to the latest stable versio...

Centos 4.3 will not install on Dell Inspiron 1300
I was trying to install the X86_64 version of Centos 4.3 and I get the message saying 'Long mode not supported try 32 bit version'
Unless I'm mistaken, you will likely have better luck with the i386 version since your Pentium M is NOT a 64-bit processor which is what is probably pro...
