Re: RHEL 6 beta -> CENTOS 6 when it comes out?

In testing on VirtualBox RHEL6 seems subjectively quite peppy compared to CentOS 5.4/5.5 on the same setup, but I have not attempted to quantify the performance. Would be interested if you can cite benchmarks. a. Specifcally in our case, the RHEL5.x VM's can only see the CPU's as P2's.. For example...

RHEL 6 beta -> CENTOS 6 when it comes out?

Hi all, I need to setup a new virtualisation server at our University very soon that will be running a fair number of Windows and linux hosts. We have the hardware and I was going to put CENTOS 5.6 on it when it arrives, but now I have the option to put RHEL6 beta on it. A bit of research shows that...

ETA RHEL/CENTOS 5.5 for server deployment

Hi all, We have a rather expensive shiny new IBM server here ready to be put to work as a VM server... RHEL 5.5 beta has been out since early Feb and there are some things that are in 5.5 that really improve the VM experience for us (dynamic memory re-allocation etc) I've put CentOS 5.4 on it for te...

Re: Kernel panics

Hi Alan, The fix was easy.. I binned the machine... it was old anyway and I had all the relevant stuff backed up anyway.. so got a new server and took the opportunity to put CENTOS 5.2 on it.. I did get it better by booting rescue CD and fsck the partitions, but the drive was failing.. had to bite t...

Kernel panics

Hi all, I've recently started getting a regular kernel panic.. not long after I installed a heap of updates. I tried going back a kernel and that seemed to help, but it hasn't stopped it completely. Here is the log entries of the event, which seem to relate to the perl forum I have installed (yabb.p...

Re: Kernel update and Wireless tools.

No answers here, so I figured I'd give what little I found myself. The problem with the keybounce (or key bounce depending on how you google) is caused by buggy Synaptic driver.. The answer is to comment out the synaptic section in xorg.conf don't have a mouse section at all as the kernel has the ps...

Kernel update and Wireless tools.

Hi Everyone, I have a few questions to ask and I was hoping some of you good folk could help. I've been having the random keybounce problem with my NEC Centrino (caused by touchpad apparently) laptop running CENTOS5 and lots of googling said to try putting: psmouse.rate=40 into grub on the kernel op...

Re: Acer Altos R510 SATA Raid

For what it's worth, I did some checking. The motherboard is: Intel® Server Board SE7320SP2 which according to this page: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=1660&OSFullName=Red+Hat*+Enterprise+Linux+4.0&lang=eng&strOSs=129&a...

Acer Altos R510 SATA Raid

Hi Guys, I've been asked to install CentOS onto an Acer Altos R510 with SATA Raid. The motherboard is an Intel Server board with Intel RAID as near as I can tell, however other than an enable/disable raid in the motherboard bios, there is no other info about it. The system has been approved for use ...
