Merge 6.8 DVD ISOs
I've seen this asked lots of times: what is required to merge DVD1 and DVD2 ISOs of the 6.8 release into a single DVD-ALL ISO? Lots of times, people say 'it isn't necessary' or 'are you sure you want to do this'. In this case, it is necessary and I am sure. I have a kickstart script that requires st...

Re: If KVM is a Type 1 hypervisor, what is VirtualBox?
Thanks, but that's begging the question, I think. Restating it: if KVM is classed as a type 1 because it's accessing the VT-x or AMD-V CPU extensions, why isn't VirtualBox called a Type 1 hypervisor when you can select to do the same thing? (Only assuming that VirtualBox can be called a Type 1 does ...

If KVM is a Type 1 hypervisor, what is VirtualBox?
So I understand the distinction between Type 1 and Type 2 hypervisors: basically, if the hypervisor has direct access to physical hardware, it's type 1; and if access to the physical hardware is mediated through an operating system, it's Type 2. Also, I guess, Type 1s are not very end-user-friendly,...

scsi_id unavailable?
In CentOS 6.x, I would do install the iscsi-initiator-utils package and then would configure my iscsi-connected drives to appear with consistent device names by running a command such as this: cat >> /etc/udev/rules.d/95-asmdisks.rules << EOF KERNEL=="sd?1", BUS=="scsi", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id --wh...

Re: No 32bit packages?
I think dizwell's beef is that CentOS' regular DVD seems to be more optimized for a "workstation" rather than "server" environment. Don gets it in one, I think. It's not a strawman to point out that if you click the option to download "the DVD", you don't get something which is entirely fit for Ora...

Re: No 32bit packages?
I don't know how you arrive at that conclusion from the facts as described: RHEL includes 32-bit libraries making an off-the-disk installation that's suitable for Oracle servers a piece of cake; CentOS, on the other hand, decided to ditch the 32-bit libraries, making it impossible to install an Orac...

Re: No 32bit packages?
Understood. But this then merely comes down to someone making a decision how to 'pack' CentOS, and deciding to do it quite differently than the upstreamers did. And, my point is, I think they made apparently perverse decisions in that regard. Given the Enterprisey nature of CentOS, is it more likely...

Re: Network device identification in Kickstart
I may have found an answer of sorts to my own question: you can specify --device=link in the network section of a Kickstart file, and that will apply the various network settings specified to the first network interface that is in connected state. However, it's not a "proper" answer, because it does...

Network device identification in Kickstart
Trying to build Centos 7 with Kickstart. The kickstart file uses a line such as : network --onboot=yes --device=eno16777736 --bootproto=static --ip=192.168.8.250 --netmask=255.255.255.0 --noipv6 --nameserver=192.168.8.250 --hostname=centos7.domain.home --activate And that works fine on a VMware Work...
