Re: Can' Install EPEL in VirtualBox VMs

Looks like you have installed the 32-bit version (i386) of CentOS-7. EPEL provides x86_64 only.

Re: qla2xxx vermagic different from kernel

To answer the vermagic question... it should not matter between 3.10.0-327.59.3.el7 and 3.10.0-327.el7 because the kABI is supposed to remain the same within a given point release.

I hope you did not cut/paste the commands from that post. You card needs the current driver, not 375xx. It's easiest if you follow the instructions here:

Re: Can not start X-server

Looks as if ModulePath is not set. How did you install the Nvidia driver?

Re: Problem with latest kernel?

The problem should be fixed in the latest kernel update 2.6.32-696.20.1.el6.

Changelog entry [2.6.32-696.20.1.el6]:

[x86] pti/mm: Fix XEN PV boot failure (Waiman Long) [1519799 1519802] {CVE-2017-5754}

Re: Meltdown and Spectre

@bshoe24

In your earlier post, you said you ran "microcode_ctl -u". I used the "-f" flag. Maybe worth another try.

Re: Meltdown and Spectre

The exact wording from Red Hat about the microcode update is as follows: This update supersedes microcode provided by Red Hat with the CVE-2017-5715 (“Spectre”) CPU branch injection vulnerability mitigation. (Historically, Red Hat has provided updated microcode, developed by our microprocessor partn...

Re: Meltdown and Spectre

@bshoe24

Try the following:

Copy the microcode.dat file you downloaded from Intel to /lib/firmware/
Run microcode_ctl -f microcode.dat using that file. You may see:

microcode_ctl: writing microcode (length: 1613824)
microcode_ctl: microcode successfuly written to /dev/cpu/microcode
