Selinux and Fail2ban - Problem with IP routing action

I have 2 centos 5 servers that were at one time identical. i.e. one was cloned from the other. Both are running selinux in permissive mode. A couple of months back I installed fail2ban on both to control attempts to hack the authenticated Postfix smtp server. This kind of works - but I observed a co...

Re: Cannot connect to servers since recent update

BTW: I checked my logwatch that came through once the servers were all working again. The update I was suspicious about was in fact "mkinitrd-5.1.19.6-81.el5_10.x86_64" Strangely - this update was only visible through the gui "software updates" but not through yum... as run by webmin... I'm leaving ...

Re: Cannot connect to servers since recent update

Thanks Trevor... Great advice as usual...
For some strange reason - that I still don't understand - my eth0 profile had been renamed to etho.backup and a new one created with DHCP - so my server was not at its usual fixed ip - but at some other IP. ifconfig found it straight away. Thanks.
Richard.

Cannot connect to servers since recent update

Something strange happened today - and my server is very broken... Would appreciate some wisdom on how to diagnose further. I have been running Centos 5 successfully and happily for years and updated to centos 5.10 a week or two back - still everything was fine. I run lots of typical and some possib...

Re: Realtek RTL8168/8111 NIC

I suggest you have a look at:
http://elrepo.org/tiki/tiki-index.php
This is a repository of hardware drivers for enterprise linux - and is very well supported with new drivers.
All my problems went away when i found elrepo.
The elrepo community and the centos community seem to overlap.

HTTPD server responding to Samba request?

Can anyone suggest what is happening here? Every morning I get a bunch of these in logwatch. Many of the 404 messages refer to smaba folders on the server. It looks like windows clients trying to access samba folders are also "triggering" the httpd server for some reason. I think everything is worki...

fsck errors: "inode 'x', i_block is 'y', should be 'z'." What does it mean

I think this is a general linux file system question. I am unfairly trying to harvest the centos community expertise. I have a "non centos" system that often produces a bunch of these fsck errors at boot time: -------------- ***** File system check forced at Mon Mar 18 14:09:22 WST 2013 ***** fsck f...
