Re: Heads up - today's yum update of nfs

It's never safe to update nfs-utils on an NFS server with active clients. Exactly. Yet if yum is set to automatically install updates that is exactly what it does. So what are the options? Should the end user have to go through the immense list of packages installed (hundreds to thousands), careful...

Heads up - today's yum update of nfs

Heads up for people who serve files via NFS from Centos 7. Came in this morning to find a mess of unhappy computers. Tracked it down to these lines in /var/log/messages: Sep 14 04:37:00 server yum[21191]: Updated: libnfsidmap.x86_64 0.25-17.el7 Sep 14 04:41:01 server yum[21191]: Updated: nfs-utils.x...

Re: OpenMPI perl script will not start MPI

The problem was that LD_LIBRARY_PATH was not sufficient. It had to have LD_PRELOAD set with the full path to libmpi.so. Something about the Perl Inline::C module, or what that module builds during installation, apparently requires this. The installation notes for the software said so, but the wrong ...

Re: OpenMPI perl script will not start MPI

Tested the installation with an mpi_hello_world from http://mpitutorial.com/tutorials/mpi-hello-world/ and it ran normally with module add openmpi-x86_64 mpicc -o mpi_hello_world mpi_hello_world.c mpirun -n 28 ./mpi_hello_world modified that program to spin in a loop for about a minute diff -u mpi_...

Re: OpenMPI perl script will not start MPI

Tried again on a different machine. This environment differed in that perl 5.20 was not compiled with threads and it was Centos 6.9
instead of 6.7. The exact same results were obtained, other than the process ID's and time stamps changing.

OpenMPI perl script will not start MPI

Centos 6.7 Final, RPMs installed openmpi-1.8-1.8.1-5.el6.x86_64 and openmpi-1.8-devel-1.8.1-5.el6.x86_64 A program called "maker" was built using this MPI. At least that is what I believe I told it to do like this: perl Build.PL 2>&1 | tee ../build_pl.log #query:prompt relative to MPI ...

Re: R 3.4.0 gotcha

Thanks for the report. However, R is not a CentOS package. You are probably using EPEL's packages for R. It might be beneficial to file a bug about this. EPEL's bugs can be filed through Red Hat's Bugzilla (Fedora> Fedora EPEL ). You may need to reveal the full list of components with Ctrl-Shift-A ...

R 3.4.0 gotcha

This is a heads up on a slightly obscure R issue. A system I manage uses a package called shiny-server which requires R. When the system automatically upgraded from R 3.3.3 to 3.4.0 this package broke with the log file noting: *** caught segfault *** address 0xd3, cause 'memory not mapped' Traceback...
