Opening files from firefox

Dear community, while the recent bug regarding file system access in Firefox 60 has been fixed, opening files linked on web pages is still a pain. By default, FF offers files (e.g. JPG, PDF) to be opened by "xdg-open" -- which does just nothing. Trying to choose an application manually, the user is ...

Kernel Oops

Dear community, I am currently observing a strange bug on one of the CentOS 7 systems I am administering: During every reboot, ABRT generates a crash report, with the backtrace containing these lines: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffebe000040000 ... Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP ... CPU: 3 ...

mate-panel killed upon logout

Hello, we are running MATE (EPEL version) on two systems with CentOS 7 (fully updated). It seems that every time a user logs out, abrt will issue a "mate-panel killed by SIGSEGV" message. There are no obvious side effects, but the accumulation of crash reports is getting somewhat annoying... We have...

dual-gpu (xinerama) setup

Dear all, having used two-monitor configs on nvidia cards for years, I recently decided to try and activate my onboard intel gpu to drive a third monitor. The setup works in principle, of course the second gpu generates a separate screen by default, meaning that windows cannot be moved between the i...

All-in-one machine for EL7

Hello, I'm wondering whether anyone has experience with running EL7 (or Linux in general) on the HP ENVY Recline machines (these are all-in-one solutions). The 27'' versions in particular could be affordable iMac alternatives (for those not feeling comfortable with OS X), but I can't find any refere...

firefox segmentation fault

Hello, a few weeks ago, I started seeing firefox segfault (sig 11) randomly (in maybe 10 % of cases) during startup on one of my EL6 machines. The log file contains something along these lines: kernel: firefox[6474]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp 00007fff29bf7738 error 4 in firefox[400000+1a000] A quic...

nvidia <-> glamor: conflict resolved

Hello everybody, after upgrading to EL 6.6, with xorg-x11-glamor shifted to ver. 0.6.0, I noticed that my /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/glamor.conf (which I had used to prevent glamoregl from loading) has been deleted (not overwritten, it has been removed from the package). Somewhat unexpectedly, I did...

Re: Xorg core dump

NedSlider , I just discovered a very simple solution to the problem, which is non-invasive ad avoids deinstallation of default packages. The /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/glamor.conf file contains a "Module" statement. I first thought of modifying the behaviour of the library by a complementary entry ...

Re: Xorg core dump

NedSlider , thanks for the pointer. Your suspicion was correct: after reverting to the elrepo driver, the issue re-appeared, but went away immediately after uninstalling xorg-x11-glamor (with dependencies). But why doesn't the package from NVIDIA show this problem? Maybe there is something I missed...
