Re: Linux Newbie - Resizing Partitions

/dev/sda2 is an LVM physical volume. If you expanded the partition from its original size then you need to pvresize /dev/sda2 to resize the PV to occupy the new partition size. Once that's done your LVM Volume Group will contain freespace and you can use lvresize -r to resize both the LVM LV and the...

Re: Location of postgresql.conf file for Postgres 9.6 under CentOS 7.x?

We don't ship postgresql 9.6. The version we ship is 9.2.23 and it doesn't have a postgresql.conf except for one in /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d and that's to do with getting systemd to create the necessary directories under /run at boot time, not to do with postgresql configuration. To find out how your ver...

Clutching at straws but did you restart gnome/gdm since the change?

Re: different types of getting elevated previleages

On CentOS 6, just adding the user to group wheel does nothing special to them. They'll have no more access afterwards than they did before. Only if you edit /etc/sudoers with visudo and uncomment the line in there that gives group wheel access to group wheel will it make any difference.

Re: Kernel panic

There is no upgrade path from 6 to 7. I'd suggest reinstalling and restoring your latest backup and then doing a parallel install and migrating your services over to the new machine. https://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/CentOSUpgradeTool <- Note the big fat warning about it being BROKEN at the top.

DEVICE="vpn_centreon" is not vpn_softether. No idea if that would help.

Re: Upgrading Samba 3.6 to 4.x

No-one should run CentOS 6.2 - it's horrendously out of date and absolutely riddled with high severity security vulnerabilities. It has received no updates since the release of 6.3 on 21 June 2012 so it is at least 5.5 years out of date. 6.2 itself was released in December 2011 so it might even be o...

Re: CentOS newbie

Skype does exist for CentOS but the most recent version is only in their "unstable" repo as they broke it with an update about 2 weeks ago.

Re: CentOS newbie

You'll also want to list the things you need to do and run and see what linux alternatives there are, if any. Not everything in the Windows world can be done in linux and especially not if "easy" is at the top of your list of requirements :-)
