Re: running sys-unconfig

No, that's what it does. It unconfigures your system and sets it back to the defaults for everything.

Re: CentOS 1804 update / Samba 4.7.1

There was a new version of the samba packages released a few hours ago for RHEL. Those will be rebuilt for CentOS in due course and should be available soon. The new package errata is https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2018:2440 and does list at least one seg fault as being fixed. Could be worth ...

Re: centos 6 issue with HP proliant

It's not a sysctl, it's a kernel parameter that you need to append to the kernel command line in grub.conf then reboot

Re: Spectre Variant 2 on CentoS 6.8

Don't use 6.5, it's more than 5 years old and riddled with security bugs. Run a yum update to get the rest of your server up to date. There are many much more important and exploitable vulnerabilities in 6.5 than just meltdown/spectre.

Re: CentOS full ISO 32bit

If the size was 920MB then you didn't download the right thing, that sounds like the minimal iso not the one with DVD in its name. The "Everything" iso is overkill for anyone not wanting to set up a local mirror, use CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1804.iso instead.

Re: Securing SSH

Use iptables. Possibly combined with an ipset containing a list of the ip addresses or subnets you want to allow access.

Re: RHEL 6 upgrade using centos repo

There is an old wiki page https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/MigrationGuide that has details of how to do pretty much exactly that. Be aware that I don't think it's been maintained for some time so it may be inaccurate so, for this reason alone, you should try this out on a test system or six before you...

Re: SCLO repo not working

I think they are deprecated, no longer supported and are about to be removed from the directories and already have been excluded from the metadata.
