If you installed the x86_64 version (not the 32 bit or arm or...) then you should edit /etc/yum/vars/contentdir and change it to read 'centos' (without the quotes).

The results are similar whether used 1500 or 9000 MTU
That surprises me. Do you see a difference in cpu usage when using those 2 MTUs?

I would suggest running yum provides '*/libmysqlclient.so*' and see which packages are listed and choose the one that matches your install best.

I don't even understand what the problem is. The video you linked to just looks like normal behaviour for vim. There are no weird characters on his screen, it looks like a normal ifcfg file to me. Perhaps you need a vim tutorial/cheat sheet like https://developers.redhat.com/promotions/linux-cheatsh...

At a guess, it looks more like a problem with the window manager that you are trying to use. I'd suspect that you don't have all the e..g gnome* packages installed that are required to get a full working desktop. But that's a guess and I would have expected to see indications that it was that in Xor...
