We ship gcc and it's just a yum install away but if you have no internet access then you need to configure your yum repos so that the internet ones are disabled. That's controlled using the files in /etc/yum.repos.d/ with "enabled=0" (or 1 to enable). You must have had the iso file in orde...

You'll need to download the intel compiler from Intel as its license restrictions mean it is not possible for it to be included in the distro. If you have no network connection then you should probably disable all yum repos and enable the c7-media one and mount the install iso on one of the director...

You can get the look and feel of CentOS 6 on CentOS 7 by installing the MATE desktop group from the EPEL repo. It's a fork of gnome2 rather than the gnome3 that CentOS 7 uses.

Nothing that CentOS supplies installs under /usr/local so it sounds like you are running something like cpanel or another similar panel that replaces CentOS supplied software with its own. You'll need to seek support for that from the people that provide it. We cannot help as they have their own met...

I've never seen any "short summary of failed login attempts" on login with any user. Are you sure this isn't something you've added yourself? The lastb command can show you things like this but it needs to be run as root.

First, newgrp doesn't do what you think it does. You can either run that or you can logout and back in again to pick up the new group. Without that, your existing session doesn't belong to the newly added group.
