Why? Why would you install CentOS 7 now when it has less than 6 weeks left to live?

Pick a newer distro, one that doesn't die in less than 2 months time.

And then repeat it again until you reach the bottopm of the directory tree containing the space.

Pick a newer distro and try that. CentOS 7 dates from 2014 and is only a few weeks away from its end of life date. It's a bad choice for a new install.

You seem to have missed the Red Hat announcement that they were killing CentOS Linux 8 about 3 years ago. You need to pick a newer rebuild - I'd recommend either Rocky or Alma as Stream is too beta-y to be trusted.

Elevate sounds good but before use, a backup of the original is essential.

Check you don't have duplicate files pertaining to the same adapter in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
