Re: My clock went backwards by 19 hours and 30 minutes!!! why?

The clock started behaving badly again and lagging in random patterns. I changed the CMOS battery and it seems to have stayed solid for the past 48 hours. I am amazed there is not info generated when the CMOS battery goes low. Or maybe there is and I don't know. This is not conclusive yet as the pro...

8 thread processor or 4 thread processor? does it make a difference to CentOS?

Hi Everyone, Does CentOS take advantage of any and all the threads that come with an Intel Xeon processor? I am in the process of purchasing two X5500 series processors but I have a comparable option in X5600 series with the same clock speed but with 8 threads rather than 4 threads that come with th...

Re: Quad-Core uneven load

Okay, sure. But I was referin to the ATTACHMENT portion of posting a thread which does allow for .jpg and .zip to be attached but really doesn't work for .jpg. Anyhow, anyone has a take on this? I am looking to have another server which will be running two Xeon 5500 series processor with total of 8 ...

Quad-Core uneven load

Hi Everyone, I have a server with an Intel Quad-core. I have always noticed that each core is used unevenly and mostly core 4 and 3 are used all of the time. Is this a problem of configuration or load balancing of CPU cores is not necessary and that it's just normal function. If I am missing somethi...

Re: SuperMicro / CentOS compatibility - Specific model 1026TT-TF

Thanks for the response guys.

It does look good doesn't it. I specially like the built-in IPMI (KVM-over-IP) feature of it. It seems like I can do remote install of CentOS 10 times a day :-) to this server without the need for a KVM-over-IP switch.

Wondering to chose 2.5" or 3.5" HDD for my severs?

Hi Everyone, I am looking into SuperMicro 2u Twin2 (4 nodes in 2u format) and I have a choice of using a version that support 12 x 3.5" HDD or 24 x 2.5". Aside from the price difference that is there between 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs (2.5" a bit higher with lower GB size), what other advantages or disadvan...
