Re: Listing 6.x source rpm(s) from 5.x shell

I was reading a section in this CentOS doc http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/YumAndRPM#head-0b576ad62c41cbd3283b1d05e8b1f9354cd84175 And I just learned about rpmdevtools for CentOS 5.x So, I checked it out a bit $ yum --disablerepo \* --enablerepo epel list rpmdevtools Available Packages rpmdevto...

Re: yum-builddep not seeing localinstall of rpm

I have attached output of 'getinfo.sh package > ./getinfo-package.log' yum-builddep is (still) not seeing libotf, lib-devel after a cleanup. So, still not sure what to think. Error: No Package found for libotf-devel You can see the CLEANUP EXERSIZE I did below. I have noticed that all the SRPM files...

Re: Listing 6.x source rpm(s) from 5.x shell

I was reading though the official CentOS 5.x docs on SRPM files: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/RebuildSRPM And I read this, "The chance of success in rebuilding a SRPM package depends (mostly) on how close the distribution is to CentOS. The chance of rebuilding SRPMs for [from] a higher version of R...

Re: Python 2.7 installation on centos 5 without distrurbing yum

@r_hartman "you who will be responsible for maintaining the software, updating when security fixes are being released, recompiling affected packages, etc. Not to mention being on your own for support" I am ware of this. I suppose I should precede every statement with "I am a software engineer", that...

Re: Python 2.7 installation on centos 5 without distrurbing yum

make altinstall does not touch the CentOS system. Either 3.2 (bleeding edge) or 2.7 can be used. You really need to get a clue. The is no reason to use RPM for non-system related software. It is completely seperate, and many times everthing is created inside a virtual environment. You ned to edulate...

Re: Python 2.7 installation on centos 5 without distrurbing yum

The aplications (such as Python) and libraries for CentOS, RHEL were all created with the Free Software Foundation's autoconf and libtool tools These tools generate the familiar *.tar.gz or *.tgz (compressed tar balls) you see all over the Internet. RPMs wrap the tar balls. The RPM Package Manager i...

yum-builddep not seeing localinstall of rpm

Is there such thing as a localhost yum repo? After I create and sign a new RPM yum sees it but yum-builddep does not... Here's what I have been up to... I download the src.rpm for emacs (http://vault.centos.org/6.2/os/Source/SPackages/emacs-23.1-21.el6.centos.src.rpm) and ran yum-builddep on it to i...

sudo not getting /etc/profile env var

I put a $GNUPGHOME env var in /etc/profile to setup a system-wide GPG database, but sudo does not seem to get it so it tries to create an entirely new GPG DB (in user ~ owned by root--ack) $ echo $GNUPGHOME /etc/pki/.gnupg $ sudo gpg -a --export --output /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-MyKey 59AF543E g...

Re: Listing 6.x source rpm(s) from 5.x shell

An "unrealistic opposition to progress"? I mean really! I just want to get a directory listing from http://vault.centos.org/6.2/os/Source/SPackages/ using yum, and download a file using yumdownloader. The click, click, click, search, click, click, right click, copy, click paste click, click is tiers...
