Re: Keyring issues after update/reboot

I ran into this issue while using our university's Linux computers. Turns out that you are supposed to enter your PREVIOUS password to that prompt to unlock the keyring.

Re: weird logwatch report - can anybody explain ?

grep mp3 /var/log/httpd/access_log | more or something similar should help.

Re: weird logwatch report - can anybody explain ?

You could check the log files directly to see what is going on. They are probably in /var/log/httpd One possibility is that the bot(?) that made the requests only actually downloaded the first few kilobytes of each file, but your httpd has been configured to log as if the entire file got downloaded....

OK, so you seem to have kernel-plus installed, but it is not in use. If you don't specifically want to use the plus kernel, you can probably rectify this situation with yum install kernel and yum remove kernel-plus-3.10.0-862.9.1.el7.centos.plus.x86_64

Re: Broke my centos7 VPS when trying to update Python

Looking through that document it looks like it would install Python 3.6 in parallel to your existing CentOS-provided python, so it should not break yum.

Did you deviate from those instructions somehow?

Re: Planned glibcxx_3.4.21Support

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles with CentOS. As for security issues, RH backports security fixes and other important changes to older versions as described in on the backporting page and CentOS inherits those fixes. The base PHP version in CentOS is unlikely to switch to a newer version, but ther...

Re: Difference between Centos 5.5 vs Centos 6/7

TrevorH's remarks are correct, but perhaps there's something that makes that particular process consume more CPU cycles when running under CentOS 7. You could use strace to see if the binary running under CentOS 7 does something unusual. Compare this with the strace output of the binary running unde...

Re: yum update not showing latest packages

You seem to have the centosplus repository enabled. Are you using the stock CentOS kernel or the CentOSPlus kernel? This was one reason why I asked about uname -a (and not uname -r) and rpm -qa kernel\*
