How to UN GROW a raid
I wish to remove a device from a simple level 1 raid without leaving a removed device listed as part of the raid. mdadm --grow /dev/md1 -l1 -n3 /dev/sda3 will add a third device to a simple raid. How do I ungrow it back to a n2 or even n1 device? I used to believe that mdadm --grow /dev/md1 -l1 -n2 ...

cd /lkjsdf ; source junk.1 logs me off!
Dear Gentle Folk, I thought I knew unix/bash etc. The compound statement USING TCSH! cd /lkjsdf ; source junk.1 completes and then logs me off IF the cd directory does not exist. It works fine if the directory does exist. Why is this and how do I fix it. It doesn't matter what is in junk.1, nothing ...

Re: Backporting security fixes
Thanks for answering. So let me expand the question to Centos 7. Say I update to kernel 200 the day it is available. Then more security patches are added to the kernel by redhat who generates kernel 201. If those patches are 'backported' to kernel 200, since I already have it installed, it won't upd...

Backporting security fixes
We have a few Centos 5.11 machines in operation, and I would like to know how to find out exactly which CVE security notices have been backported to kernel 2.6.18-419.el5 which is the last kernel available for CentOS 5, even though kernel 422 was published by Red Hat because of at least two security...

sata to usb adapter not recognized SOLVED
Running latest Centos 7 minimal, lenovo laptop, seagate sata drive, with an apricorn SATA to USB adapter
I plug it in and nothing happens, no dmesg, no /dev/sdb shows up, no nothing.
Pointers to RTFM solicited, answers would be great too

Re: Dual boot Centos7 and Windows 10
Now I am trying to reinstall windows 10 but it says
The drive where Windows is installed is locked, unlock the drive and try again.
What does that mean?

Thanks for the response. The original drives and present trials are all being done by the CentOS 7 rescue disk.
