Also, I tried editing the /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf file, to change it to chroot_local_user=YES which I believe would make users chroot to their home directory, but it made no difference after restarting vsftpd. I then turned off vsftpd using service vsftpd stop but Filezilla still continued to work, ...
