Re: CentOS 8 will die and be replaced by Stream

@TrevorH

I must have misunderstood the FAQ if this illustrious forum is a RedHat provided facility.

Thanks for your support to the Centos Linux project over the years.

Re: CentOS 8 will die and be replaced by Stream

I'm sure Trevor will move this post if it is in the wrong place I've just logged in to mention Springdale Linux (last EL clone standing apart from Oracle Linux). Springdale (formerly PUIAS Linux) is a small project managed by universities in the USA and provides a recompile of EL7 and EL8. The homep...

Re: How old are you? How long have you used CentOS?

About 3 years.

But of course, you have no idea what age group I'm in.

And you don't know what I use CentOS for.

A clue to the age group: the first modem I used was in a 19" rack and had a rotary dial on the front

Good luck with the project

Re: no music recorder, which is best?

I would second Audacity from Nux desktop repository. I have used Audacity for years across three operating systems, it usually works fine. With some soundcards I have had problems with recording the output of an internal source. PS: Around 90 hours of creative commons licenced classical music may be...

Re: Atom have enough grunt for CentOS 7?

Hello I'm not familiar with the Atom N2800, the Wikipedia page suggests that it is 64 bit capable 'if enabled'. I have run a Gnome 3 based OS (Gnome Ubuntu) on an old Samsung NC10 netbook with success, but that was a 32 bit version. You could try downloading the live Gnome Centos 7 iso and using you...

Re: CentOS 7 - 32 bit - is there such a thing?

UPDATE: turns out I didn't activate the network via the GUI before configuring the base repo. The bug is still valid but not a show-stopper. That one is causing trouble all over. Took me a bit to sort it out! Just in case anyone else falls over this: you have to switch on networking in the installe...

Re: Where are the Gnome games ?

Very good question. I can't find them in the repos (not on CentOS at work). http://ttboj.wordpress.com/2013/09/26/installing-missing-gnome-games/ This chap noticed the games had gone from Fedora 19. I've downloaded and installed a couple of other rpms from fedora 19 repos using the yum install foo.r...

Re: CentOS 7 - 32 bit - is there such a thing?

I have an old Pentium 4 box which is my "in case I need to do something in Windoze" machine (on a removable drive) and my "let me test this distro" toy. http://springdale.math.ias.edu/data/springdale/7.0/i386/os/images/ I just burned the boot.iso to a CD and booted into the installer and used the d...

Re: CentOS 7 for i386

Hello All OP mentioned Mepis, which is based on Debian Stable. Debian has a 486 kernel rather than a 686-non-PAE kernel available in repos. MX-14 (the 'light' distro based on Mepis) has that as well I think. Back to CentOS, many seem interested in a 32 bit build. I'm wondering if the major external ...

Re: Anything like docky, awn, or cario for CentOS 7

I managed to install Mate, but I am not sure how to set it up as the default desktop environment "/etc/sysconfig/desktop" does not seem to be there anymore. I've not yet tried the MATE installation on CentOS. Is there a desktop session available from the 'cog wheel' icon when you log in? Clicking o...
