Re: RHEL 7.4 is Out; CentOS 7.4 Can't Be Too Far Behind

I've just run yum update in my C7 VM and its loading 757 packages. I'm guessing 7.4 is here!

Re: NTFS signature is missing, Centos7, emergency mode,

See Tunk's message about /dev/sde1. Trying to mount a physical disk instead of a partition could easily trigger the message.

Re: NTFS signature is missing, Centos7, emergency mode,

See the highlighted word. Your quoted text had ntsf , it should be ntfs , you've reversed the "s" and "f". If this were cut-and-paste, then that would mean you had an error in your fstab. However, since you've copied it from the screen it may just be a copying error. Worth a chec...

Re: NTFS signature is missing, Centos7, emergency mode,

If that's a cut-and-paste, you've got a typo: "/dev/sde /mnt/usbblau ntsf rw,users,umask:0000 0 0" should be "/dev/sde /mnt/usbblau ntfs rw,users,umask:0000 0 0".

Re: Can't update lightdm

Folks, I understand from another newsgroup that CentOS will move from CR to full release once the ISOs are built. From the same newsgroup I further understand that the person responsible for building them lives in Corpus Christi, Texas.* Extra patience at this time is advised! Martin *See https://en...

[solved] Using the serial port as a VT

Thanks, minicom was what I was looking for. I kept getting terminal emulators as in "a window emulating a terminal internally" (xterm, mate etc) rather than as in "a computer emulating a terminal externally). It's in base, so will be stable and supported long term.

Regards,
Martin

Re: Can't update lightdm

Are you actually using lightdm? I had this come up in a VM and simply using

Code: Select all

# yum remove lightdm-gobject
sorted things out. I've rebooted the VM and logged into the MATE desktop and nothing seems broken so far ...

[solved] Using the serial port as a VT

I'm probably just looking in the wrong place, but is there an application within CentOS which allows me to use the serial port on my computer as a VT to connect to the serial port on a switch? My old VT420 only goes up to 38.4 kbaud and the infiniband switch needs 57.6 kbaud.

thanks,
Martin

Re: Files in /sbin

You had me worried for a moment there! I'd used find with -type f to drive it and hadn't therefore seen those links.

I doubt it makes any difference, but would you expect results to vary between rpm -qf $f and yum provides $f?

Re: Files in /sbin

... so do I!

Can you think of any files that should be in /sbin (or for that matter /bin) which are not "owned" by a yum package? I think I'll probably rename them: XXX -> o.XXX, reboot and see what breaks.
