Re: Local user login and shut down

Err, given that this is the CentOS forum you'll not be surprised to see that advice from Microsoft Technet is totally irrelevant. Indeed the first line of the page says: Applies To: Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 Have a read of the shutdown man page and then look a...

Re: Put quota on folder/directory

That documentation is from CentOS 5, you are posting in a CentOS 7 forum. You really shouldn't be using CentOS 5, it is no longer supported, and if you are using C6 or C7 then don't rely on C5 manuals.

Re: Backing up my server question

Watch out with virtual machines and storage. If the VMs access their own partitions, then the host will usually not have them mounted, and so they will not be backed up. If the VMs use virtual disks in a host file, then the smallest of changes will make the host file liable to be backed up. If you a...

Re: How to determine user used by the cron to execute the jobs?

It may not be the user that is the problem. Cron does NOT do a full interactive login and consequently a lot of things in .bash_profile and/or .bashrc are not performed. I don't have the details to hand. You need to check why your job isn't running (set -vx for instance). Pay particular attention to...

No problem. If I had a pound for every typo I've made I wouldn't be here - there's a yacht in the Caribbean that beckons from my dreams!

Re: rpm -Va package issues.

Trevor, Can you review your last post. Your second sentence says to remove "the newer package of each duplicate leaving the older one alone". Your example however instructs schezel to "remove the older kbd-misc-1.15.5-12.el7.noarch and leave the newer kbd-misc-1.15.5-13.el7.noarch alo...

Re: Snapshot revert on the VM instance , Time is not getting updated

You need to decide whether you want to use chronyd OR NTP - you can't have both running at the same time. https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/system_administrators_guide/s1-disabling_chrony explains the steps to disable chrony. Medion / Clevo S210TU tablet

I bought a pair of Medion S210TU tablets (aka Clevo S210TU) for my sons about 3 years ago and they have now outgrown them. I'm keeping one as a winbox for software that cannot run under Linux, but would like to upgrade the other, preferably to CentOS. I managed to break into the BIOS but the only bo...
