Yes, according to the docs it's replaced by NetworkManager, and for [b]scottro's[/b] benefit I can confirm that it appears to handle static IPv4 assignments reasonably well for wired connections (I believe this was a problem in the past).

Anaconda (the installer) now uses NetworkManager for network interface configuration which means it is now using the standard ifcfg files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts.

SquirrelMail is in the list. That implies that unless EPEL picks it up, SquirrelMail will no longer be included in RHEL. And they wonder why people are changing to Ubuntu server!

In that case SquirrelMail will be in one of the 3rd party repos for sure, and the [i]advantage[/i] to that is that it's more likely to be kept up to date there rather than remain at a frozen version-release in RHEL/CentOS :-)

Excellent point. Maybe it's a blessing not a curse. Afterall, we're stuck on 1.4.8 in RHEL 5. ;)

This gets curious. I see entries like 'nss_ldap', 'ipsec-tools' and 'aspell'.

Granted, I have not used ipsec-tools for years, but I thought that I am using
nss_ldap. I have obviously lost track of what will replace them. Time to
excavate old discussions?

But aspell ... I see no \*hunspell\* in Centos5-Base, or even in EPEL.
That seems drastic.

Yes, they seem to be making some unusual decisions and deviating significantly from Fedora.

What I find amusing is that a server package like SquirrelMail has been dropped from RHEL but they continue to include it in Fedora (including F13), which is generally considered both a desktop distro and a testbed for RHEL, not a server distro itself!

Some of the packages are also older than the latest F12 updates. This has always been the case, all the way back to RHEL/CentOS 3 / RH9. In general, as time goes on, due to the prolonged support cycle of RHEL/CentOS compared to the Fedora base, eventually the RHEL packages end up being newer than what is available for the distribution release it is forked from.
