The one thing i was really looking forward to with rhel6/centos6 was dm-replicator... but its been a hard thing to follow or i've missed something obvious. Alot of the discussion about it on the lvm mailing lists appear to have died off... RHEL6 came out with kernel modules, but no lvm binaries for it (As yet)...

Not really. Just good advice. We would all like to see CentOS 6 on the street, but the "Are we there yet daddy?" approach is not going to be fruitful. The forum moderators and CentOS core team will endeavor to make any progress information available as soon as it is known. If you don't like the advice, then go pester the developers on the centos-devel ML, but I'd strongly advise reading the list archives first to see what kind of response you might expect.

Welcome to the CentOS fora.

I rather have a lose release schedule, with no guaranties and constantly updated than to have none. I guess many will disagree. Even if the developers can't state an official release date now, they surely know more than me. At least I would know it won't be tomorrow, next week, whatever. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate very much their work and I'm fine with whatever it takes to get it done.

I can oblige you with that - it won't be tomorrow and it won't be next week. Beyond that, my crystal ball doesn't work too well but I see no evidence to suggest a release is imminent.

The distro hasn't been built yet (centos-devel ML), it's likely to spend a week or two (at least) in QA once built, and apparently takes best part of a week to push the finished product out to the mirrors so if I were a betting man I wouldn't bet on a release this month either. JMHO

So knowing the rough time scales things take to happen, you are now in a position to make predictions as well as the rest of us :-)

The tweet was appreciated. For people like myself I think a simple weekly tweet update would suffice. I don't think that's asking too much.

If read the suggested "Announcements" forum thread, and it provided no information. Moreover, in his post #4, Alan Barlett says literary the following:

"Please do not pester the CentOS developers with queries regarding the beta release. Details will be made available at the appropriate time."

What an eloquent display of arrogance!
I agree with Alan here. Just let the devs focus on doing what they're doing.
In the meantime we can practise some patience.

Some time ago (https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=10471&forum=37&post_id=33510#forumpost33510) I raised this same questions when we decided to move from Fedora to CentOS. I am surprised that the same answers are given 3 yrs afterwards. Bla, bla, bla this web page says that you can join the effort bla bla. But the fact is the fallacy remains: CentOS is a CLOSED open source project!! For some unknown reason the guys behind the effort, obviously, do not want other to be substantially involved. This is the reason there are so many voices of concern here. Such secrecy provides fertile ground for user insecurity and thoughts for doing a branch.

Thank you guys for doing a great job BUT CentOS is so popular now that you need to think about its real long term viability. You need to further open up the project, seek more assistance and quite possibly describe your build procedures. So that in case of disaster another group will be able to take over.

Grep doesn't take this long. Writing NEW software does. What could they be writing? A revenue model?

You could always ask for a refund and then take that, add a few bucks of your own, and get a support entitlement from upstream.
