[Split from] Installing VLC, m4a support

Post by rcolbert » 2013/11/14 22:47:22

I truly wish it was possible to make you fsckers realize how bitched-up it truly is to not have working multimedia support in an OS I can download in 2013. Really do. I know you're not going to. And, I know you're going to silence this opinion in your forum. But, for STILL not having good multimedia support in an OS, you truly suck. I only use CentOS/RHEL when my employer requires it. And, at that, I immediately begin working toward getting them off it. If they don't, I usually quit and go elsewhere. This political horseshit is the reason. Because, eventually, media support is needed. And, it's too much of a hassle on this bitched-up OS. You (and your 1U data center gangsters) can *all* suck one.

I'm using the EPEL and Nux Desktop repositories with appropriate priorities in addition to CentOS base on a desktop installation of CentOS 6.4, and have installed VLC and ffmpeg.

The resulting system can play the mp4a (AAC) audio files, in addition to many other multimedia related tasks. My system is no longer 'pure' CentOS of course...

Just in case anyone finds this thread.
