All,
I decided to put together a how-to for creating a CentOS 7.0 image that can be set up on Google Cloud Engine (GCE) as an instance template image.
Not sure if this is useful for anyone, but here is the link to it:

Hope someone finds it useful.

Hey Brian,
I followed your steps able to create an CentOS 6.5 instance for GCE but gets stuck in boot image. Would appreciate if you can provide me any pointers to get across this.
Serial console output for centos-standar1
SeaBIOS (version 1.8.2-20160510_123855-google)
Total RAM Size = 0x00000001e0000000 = 7680 MiB
CPU Mhz=57802

found virtio-scsi at 0:3
virtio-scsi vendor='Google' product='PersistentDisk' rev='1' type=0 removable=0
virtio-scsi blksize=512 sectors=18874368 = 9216 MiB
drive 0x000f54b0: PCHS=0/0/0 translation=lba LCHS=1024/255/63 s=18874368
