Centos 5.3 Artwork

Post by crashatau » 2009/04/16 06:45:00

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but I think the Centos 5.3 artwork is awesome.
The gnome login screen is so much better looking than the old 5.2 one.
Great job :)

There seem to be two schools of thought on that - those who like it; and those who think it is too flowery, not serious enough, or looks like a throwback to the 60s. Guess you and I are in the first camp.

I'm sure there is at least one more group that doesn't care one way of the other. :-)

Never went to the GUI yet personally. :)

Well, even you strictly-command-line folks get to enjoy the boot splash screen - unless running headless of course. ;-)

I've always leaned toward the command line, having started my computing career before there was a command-line, much less a GUI; however, I do find the GUI pretty much indispensable any more. Command-line works fine in a terminal window, and I often have several of those open to different hosts simultaneously. Getting OT - but this is Social.

Almost all CentOS machines I have (including desktops) are set to runlevel 3. So, yes, I see the boot splash screen, but that's about it. Besides, my desktop background is mostly single-colored, no image. Maybe life is too boring this way? :-D

:-? "Boot splash screen"? No recollection of such. :-P

IMO, whatever is not a solid colour background, is not a solid colour background.

So, looks like the results of this unintentional, informal, and un-scientific poll are strongly trending toward the "don't give a hoot" about the graphics camp.

So what do you use to browse the forums in RL3?

I'm guessing a "post your CentOS desktop" thread probably isn't such a great idea - we'd get lots of scrolling dmesg output pictures :-D

I'm a GUI kind of guy with plenty of Konsole windows open.

Well, there's always "startx" but I'm sure a hard-[command-]line user would consider that cheating. ;-)
