I know, I know, 'don't ask'.

But RHEL must be one hairy bugger for it to take this long to translate to CentOS 8.

Like, wow.

Conspiracy theories:

A. Delay is to sell more RHEL licenses.

B. Devs are on strike for better pay.

So this has been moved to Social.

Well this has been useless.

I think it's nearly there: https://wiki.centos.org/About/Building_8 (perhaps around RHEL 8.1 release time?)

But yeah, I like the idea of striking for better [working conditions|pay|love|whatever].

It was moved because you originally posted this to CentOS 7 forums and we don't have C8 forums available yet. As you may have noticed, we have a number of CentOS 8 topics already in this subforum.

As was mentioned elsewhere, building 8 required an entirely new build system, which explains much of the delays. Another thing which slowed down the process at the latter stages was the release of RHEL 7.7, which needed to be taken care of as well, by the same people who build 8.

If you do want to test an EL 8 right now get a free RHEL developer account and install RHEL 8 like I did. From a desktop user POV I find it still not very useful as a lot of stuff is missing which we will see later in EPEL and second level repos (rpmfusion /nux).

I don't think there will be a nux-dextop repo for el8.

Yes it seems you are right. While I see EL8 activity in both ELrepo and RPMfusion there is still nothing visible in nux-desktop. :(

If you're struggling with resources is there anything the community can do to help? I think if you asked people would response.

When I tried to download the Beta for RHEL 8 it required a company name. Not being employed (redundancy and then health problems) I couldn't proceed. You may find the same issue with the released RHEL 8.

Try MartinR Ltd. ;) (It really doesn't matter)
