LDAP / Samba stability

Post by HuwWJ » 2009/11/10 11:37:43

Hi folks,

The college I work for use OpenLDAP and Samba to serve around 700 Windows PC's. We have around 2500 users in all.

Every now and then I hear stories about serious scalability issues with the OpenLDAP/Samba combination. Our local University has just changed their systems over to Windows AD servers because of the 'issue'. Apparently they had serious scalability issue once they had more than 10,000 ish users using their systems.

Has anyone on this forum come across this problem? Is anyone here running a bigger system without issues?

Look forward to hearing about your views/experiences.

Regards

Huw

Does the lack of response to my post carry it's own story?

Is anybody out there running a large OpenLDAP/Samba network anymore? Is all Windows file serving now done using Active Directory ?

Come on folks, someone out there must have some experiences to share in this field?

TIA

Huw

The problem may be that you posted a question in CentOS Social rather than a more appropriate forum. I could move the topic, but you might be better off posting in the proper forum to start with - Probably CentOS 5 - General Support or possibly Server Support.
