imagemagick update

Post by Moshe1010 » 2014/02/18 00:43:05

Hello,

There were some major changes since the included imagemagick distribution package. I would like to ask to update the version of imagemagick to the latest (currently 6.8.8-6).

Current Imagemagick's distribution version is from 2009-07-30 (version 6.5.4-7).

Thanks in advance.

That's not the way it works. CentOS follows RHEL and RH have a policy of not updating package versions once the distro is released. They backport bug fixes and selected enhancements but that's it. Please read

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

But correct me if I'm wrong, it is possible to update it in the next distribution, isn't it? And the example in your link is Apache, which has a much greater impact on server functionality than a minor, 3rd party software, like ImageMagick which its only purpose is to handle different types of images.

If you want to see what will be in the next distribution, check out RHEL7 beta.

The "next" distribution will be el7 not el6.6. The version lock applies to all releases in a major version so 6.x ships the same versions for the entire 10 year lifespan of the distro.
