Curiously, the page at https://wiki.centos.org/Download does not clearly indicate which "minor" version of CentOS 7, but only lists the build number.
Can someone please update that page to indicate 7.3 (or 7.4 soon)?
I can deduce the following mappings from https://hub.docker.com/_/centos/
centos7.3.1611, 7.3.1611
centos7.2.1511, 7.2.1511
centos7.1.1503, 7.1.1503
centos7.0.1406, 7.0.1406
CentOS versions vs. builds
Re: CentOS versions vs. builds
Yes, some bright spark in the CentOS core team decided to call the releases after the yymm that they came out upstream so you get 7.3.1611 (current), 7.2.1511, 7.1.1503 and 7.0.1406. The dates are useless and everyone calls them 7.2 and 7.3 etc.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: CentOS versions vs. builds
Yes, it was decided by the CentOS Board. Anyone who would like to know all the details, just go to this centos-devel mailing list:
https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/cent ... hread.html
and look for the thread that starts with "CentOS 7 and release numbering Karanbir Singh". Be prepared to spend a good full hour to read them through.

I indeed was wondering why... at that point they could've given them some useless and pointless and completely confusing names like
7.0.intro
7.1.guitar
7.2.bass
7.3.orchestra
"so what version are you on?" "Orchestra"... "nice so now I need to become a dns server and translate orchestra in a number... I can see why you wanted to save spa... oh wait 7.3 is shorter than orchestra..."
ok... </rant>
